ALEXANDRU RĂDVAN: THOUGHTS ABOUT SUN AND A MYTH: Nicolae Minovici Museum, Bucharest

May 20 - June 19, 2022 Anaid Art Gallery Bucharest

".... this "I" always wants to be somewhere else, always dreams of escapes, about a kind of peace and intensity that it would not find in the immediate reality. The paradox is that the immediate reality, the every day, stimulates me, I like it, it charges me, but when I work, I use all my resources to get out of here. I can't even say that I generate a world that has me as God, I just have a vision of this world composed of many things that I like, or more precisely, would like. A world where I don't have to justify myself, explain myself, wait. It is not an imaginary world. There is a place populated in this world by beings whom understand me without opening my mouth. A place where I get answers to all the questions I ask."

Alexandru Rădvan

"Thoughts about Sun and a Myth" is an exhibition that continues the artist's endeavour of recent years, in which myths and mythologies develop organically, weaving an increasingly complex structure between everyday reality and Alexandru Rădvan's intimate universe. An artist with a complex and rich oeuvre, Rădvan has accustomed us to large-scale works that overwhelm through the monumentality and virulence of the subjects tackled. In this new exhibition, Rădvan turns his attention to a series of small-scale paintings created between 2021 and 2022, depicting everyday moments from timeless summers, including a series of medium-sized paintings on black canvas referencing subjects from ancient mythology, realized between 2020 and 2022.
