The painting "Néa kinonikón sistima" is part of a larger series of works entitled " Minotaur" and inspired by the mythical legend of the Minotaur from Knossos in Ancient Greece.
The "Minotaur" series describes a character that is tormented and torn into pieces because it is different from the society to which it belongs. His one big fault is to differ from the existing official canon. Differences between him and all those around condemn him to a solitary life. Self-inflicted mutilation is rooted in the wish to free one’s spirit, to surpass limits. Painting is a means to attain self-knowledge and reflection, a mirror of contemporary society in which to be different is equal to being shut in a labyrinth of one’s own.
